Matching pair of folk-art paint decorated frames are painted by hand with a traditional recipe of apple cider vinegar paint then is finished with four coats of matte lacquer to protect the paint. New - completed 2019.
Face frames are made with eastern white pine. There are no nails or mechanical fasteners used in the construction of the frames, all corner joints are hand fitted with traditional old school joinery.
The frame glass is original old poured with bubbles and waves [not reproduction glass]. Glass is approximately 125 to 170 years old that came out of southeastern Pennsylvanian farmhouses. The glass does have minor age blemishes but is very much usable and would be considered in good condition.
Change out the glass and it would make a great small mirrors.
The majority of my work is Design-Build and bench made one at a time [one of a kind design]. I strive to use solid wood in construction in my work and only occasionally use high quality plywood where deemed it would outperform a natural wood species. Finishes are applied by hand and often involve time consuming multistep processes to achieve an antique, vintage or worn appearance. The cabinets and furniture I build are made from mostly reclaimed wood. While my work is design-build in the traditional style, the use of the reclaimed wood gives the piece an original worn appearance without beating up the piece to make it look old. When using reclaimed wood, there will be imperfections knots-knot holes, nail holes, scratches, dings and dents. Those imperfections are what make each piece stand out on its own from the next.
I restore and repair quite a few antiques and I truly feel this frame has the look of a southeast Pennsylvania antique you would have to remove it from the wall and inspect the back to tell it is of new construction.
Saw tooth hanger hardware is included, if you let me know prior to shipping whether frames are to be mounted vertical or horizonal I can install the hardware so it’s ready to hang when you receive it.
