Pokemon Battery Replacement/Save Data/Repair Service (EPHRATA)

SERVICE OPTIONS:
Battery Replacement Service (BRS) includes the following:
- If existent (and if possible), the save file will be backed up and re-added once the new battery is installed.
- Old battery removal as well as old solder is removed from pads (I do not mix old solder with new solder as it could possibly cause issues down the line)
- Board is cleaned with isopropyl alcohol to remove any old debris/flux/oxidation, etc. and then finalized with a contact cleaner spray to get all the nooks and crannies on the board.
- Edge connectors (gold contact pins) are cleaned with a special pad cleaning brush and polished off with DeoxIT liquid cleaner to rejuvenate and improve gold connector performance.
- New genuine Renata or Panasonic (depending on what was purchased) battery is soldered/installed and tested for proper voltage
- Fully test the cartridge (save game multiple times, check voltage again, etc)
- For Gen 3 games, RTC flags will be reset so events can work properly after battery replacement. Also, if needed, Berry fix patch will also be applied.
Battery Replacement Service (BRS) + Battery Holder
(Recommended for GBA Carts only)
- Everything mentioned above plus a battery holder will be installed for an easier, solderless future battery replacement. NOTE: These holders can only hold thinner 1.6mm batteries so bigger batteries that are 2.0mm (CR1620, CR2032 which I mostly use) will not fit properly with these holders. I can only install Panasonic CR1616 with the battery holder. Please keep this in mind when purchasing this option.

- Your save data will be backed up using specialty hardware. Once data is backed up, I will message you with options on how you can receive your save file.
FAQ
Q: Why do you only use Renata/Panasonic batteries?
A: I’ve used Renata batteries for almost 2 decades, never had an issue with this brand. I’ve used multiple CR battery brands in different applications and this brand surpasses other cell batteries in terms of quality, endurance, and shelf life. Panasonic is on par with Renata hence why I also use them 😊
Q: Standard battery size for GBA carts is CR1616 and for GBC is 1616/2025, why do you use bigger sizes?
A: Because those larger batteries fit and well… why not? Bigger is better 😊 Bigger battery means longer life. How much more? Please see below:
CR1616=55mAh CR1620=68mAh à 23.6% more capacity!
CR2025=165mAh CR2032=225mAh à 36.3% more capacity!
To give you a perspective cartridge wise, I installed a Renata CR2032 on my Pokémon Yellow game back in 2009. As of today (2024- 15yrs so far) It’s reading at a 1.7-1.9 voltage!
Q: You stated above that you only recommend the battery holder to be installed on GBA carts, why is that?
A: There are two main reasons why I recommend not installing a battery holder on older gb/gbc cartridges.
-The current battery holders I have will only support CR1616 battery sizes therefore that would be the only size that can be used with the battery holder.
-Save data is reliant on a working battery! (this only applies to RBY games. GBA cart save data is not reliant on the battery)
The only thing preventing your save data from being safe or losing it entirely is friction. Personally (and I’m sure most would agree), save data is extremely important and valuable. If my save data gets lost, let it be due to other extreme cases (stolen, ran over by a car, burned, etc.) and not due to the cart falling at an angle and the battery slightly moving out of place and not making proper contact. Odds of something like that happening are extremely low but the chances are still there. Personally, I have a few carts that have a holder on older cartridges but I also consistently back up my data with special hardware. A lot of people don’t have access to special save data backup hardware (hence why I even offer a service to back up you save data lol!) which is why I would recommend a bigger/properly soldered solution for the gb/gbc cartridges.
