Ready to become more Self-Sufficient??
Much easier than raising chickens that can take a lot of effort and money to get started! Jumbo Quail are incredibly productive in egg and meat output. When starting with chicks, Chickens take up to 5 - 7 MONTHS to lay their first egg, whereas Jumbo Quail takes only 6 - 8 WEEKS!
These pudgy grapefruit-sized birds are egg-laying machines, at over 300 eggs per hen each year! Healthier, and creamier tasting than chicken eggs, 3 or 4 eggs equal 1 chicken egg. Dual-purpose birds as their bodies are full of lean meat at 8 - 10 weeks! No need to have a large pen. These little birds are happy with small housing similar to a rabbit hutch. Easy to tend to and high producers!
You can expect meaty, true jumbo-sized quail from our birds, (12 to 15 ounces).
Here at The Dinosaur Omelette, we invest lots of time and effort in recording each bird’s progress, growth, and egg production! These laborious details keep us on top of ensuring the quality and health of our birds. It is a great pleasure to help others raise their own quail and learn from our experience.
To ensure that proper varied genetic makeup continues within our covey of quail, we maintain a spiral breeding program with three separate groups of Jumbo Quail, while still maintaining control of desired traits within our strict breeding program. This means the chicks customers get from us are never closely related. The gene pool within our quail is maintained to keep variety to prevent inbreeding, but controlled so desired traits are kept within our breeding groups.
We strive to keep weights just under 16oz, which creates a nice meaty bird while staying in the weight range that is best for the bird's long term health and productivity. We select birds for proper confirmation and form, and specific traits for the breed according to the Standard of Perfection for Jumbo Wild/Pharaoh Coturnix quail. This is a process we continuously work on in order to provide quality quail to our customers!
